Toyota Repair Problems? Ask a Mechanic for Answers ASAP
Thank you for trusting us with your questions. Sounds as though your vehicles engine is fuel starved. This can mean a couple different things. Most likely is a bad fuel pump. The other possibility is an electrical issue causing no power to the fuel pump. Do you have access to a digital volt meter to run some tests?
So, once it starts, using starting fluid, it continues to run until you turn off the ignition? But, without starting fluid, it will not start?
Once it starts using starting fluid, have you driven it? Will it accelerate under heavy acceleration?
I would recommend driving it under a heavy load such as full acceleration as if you are going up a freeway onramp. Let me know if it will accelerate normally.
Also, once it is warmed up, will it start without using starting fluid? As in, is it just a cold start issue? In the AM will be fine. At minimum, I make every attempt to check messages at least once every hour during the day.
Once started, how does it accelerate under heavy acceleration?
This sounds like a fuel issue, so you are going to need to connect a fuel pressure guage and monitor the fuel pressure as the car is cranking, but will not start. My feeling on it at this point is you probably need a fuel pump, but it will need to be verified with a fuel pressure guage.
