Thanks. when the key is in the on position do the lights on the dash turn on?Do you have a 12 volt test light or a voltmeter?Yes it could be a security system that has activated, do exterior lights flash when trying to start? Do you have a remote for it?

Is the security light on the dash blinking?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No. Windows and radio inoperable
Expert:  Ted Ritter replied 1 year ago.
If the security light is not blinking it's not activated and it's not the problem, look in the fuse box under the hood, there should be a large 120A fuse with a clear cover on it, see if this fuse is intact, there are a couple of other fuses, 30Amp and 40amp make sure those are ok, these are the AM1 and AM2 fuses.

Fuses look fine. The junkyard gave me a coil from a sonata. When i put it in the highlander the problem started. When i put the old highlander coil back in car wouldn't start. Would a coil model bust by junkyard cause this. Is there a reset aftet putting old factory coil back in.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Sonato coil looked identical. I put the old highlander coil back in. Cant get engine to turn over periodi
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Dashg goes black when turned to on position
Expert:  Ted Ritter replied 1 year ago.
You put a coil in that should go into a Sonata, did you look at the fuses inside, it's best to check fuses using a 12 volt testlight with the key on, you will need to check some voltages because it sounds to me that coil may have caused a short and blew a fuse.just because the fuses look good doesn't mean there is voltage going through them.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I only see fuses in engine compartment.
Expert:  Ted Ritter replied 1 year ago.
There are fuses inside at the lower left side of the dash, they may be inside a plastic cover.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Found them. Checking continuity
Expert:  Ted Ritter replied 1 year ago.
Ok, let me know. don't forget the larger fuses.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
All fuses fine.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I been driving all morning. Didnt have problems til i Unhooked battery to swap a coil. Could two bad coils in series cause this crank issue. I expected rough run not no running...this is a pickle
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Cant even get engine to turn over.
Expert:  Ted Ritter replied 1 year ago.
Does the battery actually have 12 volts when measured at the terminals?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Waiting on ride to go buy a new battery now. Will.eliminate the battery or solve problem with battery.
Expert:  Ted Ritter replied 1 year ago.
