No spark coming from my coil engine cranks but won't start

Hi there. Welcome to our site!

Most likely, the pick-up coil inside the distributor has failed. Use the attached graphics as reference to check pick-up coil resistance. If the actual readings don't match, the distributor assembly will have to be replaced.

Best Regards.

How to reinstall a distributor for a 1993 Toyota Previa trivia
Expert:  Juan Crespo replied 9 months ago.

Here are the removal and installation instructions (also see attached Figs. 1, 2 and ):

REMOVAL

1. Record spark plug wire locations, and disconnect wires from distributor cap. Disconnect distributor electrical connector. Remove 2 ventilation hoses. Remove distributor cap and dust-proof packing ring. Verify timing mark on crankshaft pulley is aligned with "0" mark on timing chain case. If necessary to bring cylinder No. 1 to TDC, install a 12 x 1.25 mm nut and bolt into end of crankshaft. Turn crankshaft until cylinder No. 1 is on compression stroke and timing mark aligns with TDC mark on timing case cover.
2. Ensure distributor rotor points toward direction shown. See attached Fig. 3 . If rotor is not as shown, turn crankshaft pulley one complete revolution. Remove distributor hold-down bolts. Remove distributor. Remove "O" ring from distributor housing and discard.

INSTALLATION

1. Coat new "O" ring with oil and install onto distributor housing. Ensure cylinder No. 1 is at TDC. If it is not, turn crankshaft until cylinder No. 1 is on compression stroke and timing mark aligns with TDC mark on timing case cover.
2. Position slot of exhaust camshaft vertically. See attached Fig. 2 . Align cutout marks of distributor drive coupling with line on distributor housing. See attached Fig. 1 .
3. Install distributor, aligning distributor flange mounting hole with bolt hole on cylinder head. Install distributor hold-down bolt. Install spark plug wires to distributor cap. Connect distributor electrical connector.
4. Connect negative battery cable. Set ignition timing. Tighten distributor hold-down bolts to 14 ft. lbs. (19 N.m).
