Customer Question

I just bought the 2016 RAV4 Hybrid Limited and noticed the compass points being displayed in the driver's display use NO and SO instead of NW and SW - I am assuming this is French or Spanish. The language option is set to English and I have not come across any other words not in English... Any ideas how I can fix this?

When heading West is "W" displayed?

Expert:  scionking replied 1 year ago.

Nord-Ouest is French for North West, Is this vehicle purchased on US mainland?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
when heading West, W is displayed. The problem is only with NW and SW.
Yes, the vehicle was purchased on the US mainland.

This is the compass in the rear view mirror correct?

Expert:  scionking replied 1 year ago.

Or one on the gauge cluster display?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No, it is the one in the driver's display on the dashboard. See attached photo

Yes the compass on the Multi information display is only a 4 point reference NO is North and SO is South. If you were to head East it should display NO and SO on opposite sides.

No, that is not correct .... See this new attached photo

Interesting, I will see if we have a hybrid on the lot to compare this to. This compass receives its data from the GPS unit, I'm assuming when you said the language was set to English you were talking about the GPS.

The language option is indeed set to English. I could not find any language setting specific to the navigation system ... are you aware of one?
Expert:  scionking replied 1 year ago.

The only one I'm aware of is shown in the picture attached. I would try cycling through the languages, set it to ones other then English and see if the compass Abbreviations change as you do so, then see if setting it back to English will rectify the problem.

Had already done that, but went through it one more time... Still no change

I will have to opt out as, I have no other explanation as to why this is happening. Another expert may be able to help if they have seen this exact problem.
