DIAGNOSIS > DIAGNOSTIC CODE CHECK

If system malfunctions while vehicle is in cruise control mode, cruise control functions will be canceled, and CRUISE light will blink 5 times, indicating fault codes are stored in cruise control Electronic Control Unit (ECU).

Intermittent failures may cause CRUISE light to flicker or illuminate. Light will go out after fault goes away. Fault may or may not be present at the time of testing; however, the corresponding fault code may be retained in ECU memory.

Before proceeding with cruise control system self-diagnostics, ensure basic inspection of system has been performed. If no faults were found during basic inspection, proceed with self-diagnostics.

DIAGNOSIS > RETRIEVING CODES > EXCEPT 1991 CAMRY & SUPRA

  1. Codes from ECU self-diagnostic system are retrieved through self-test diagnostic Data Link Connector (DLC). Test drive vehicle to allow fault codes to set in ECU memory. Stop vehicle, leaving ignition switch in ON position.
  2. Connect jumper wire between DLC self-diagnostic terminals. See ECU CODE RETRIEVAL table. SeeFig 1 - Fig 5 .
  3. If normal code is displayed (CRUISE light flashes once every .25 second), cruise control system is okay. If any code is present, repair as necessary. See FAULT CODE DIAGNOSIS under TESTING & DIAGNOSIS. If trouble still occurs even though there are no abnormalities in any of the circuits, check and/or replace cruise control ECU.
