Have Toyota Questions? Ask a Mechanic for Answers ASAP
You most likely have 1 faulty coil, does your scan tool show freeze frame data? Freeze frame data will set for only one coil, that is the coil that is at fault. You can also do a visual inspection and see if the top of one of the coils is impregnated or split open.
Also try unplugging one coil at a time and see which one will allow the car to stay running.
How did you make out with this?
You replaced coil #5, firewall bank, drivers side?
Was it a new Toyota coil you used to replace, or aftermarket?
After replacing coil and clearing check engine light what are the symptoms? Did the vehicle still start then die, did trouble codes come back, and is the freeze frame data on 5 still if the light is back on?
Were the coil codes there before you disconnected aftermarket alarm? Or only showed after disconnecting alarm.
Are there any codes or freeze frame data present now?
No the codes weren't there till the alarm was disconnected, or no freeze frame data or codes.
Does the factory security indicator flash while attempting to start the car?
A little more elaboration is needed other then one word responses, I have asked multiple questions." No" doesn't answer my first question, it was an "either, or " type question.
