02 4runner LTD, 166k miles. 2 days ago, engaged 4wd to get out of stuck mud. attempted to disengage and 4wd lights flash. hard turns cause truck to jerk to a stop. only way to turn hard with wheel (including reverse) is to have 4wd enaged (although 4wd dash lights flash nonstop now)

The most common thing to happen, is the front differential actuator gets stuck in position.

Some times tapping on the front differential actuator, or the Diff itself with a hammer is all you need to get it moving again.

If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can remove actuator and bench test it with a 12 volt battery to get it moving freely again.
