Customer Question

I am trying to install an electric brake controller on my 2012 Tacoma. The truck did not come with the factory tow package. I have viewed a couple of videos online, I cannot find the factory plug. Do all Tacomas have the plug

hi did you look for the plug at the driver front left foot kick panel you have to remove the panel the plug can be tuck on the back of the wires so you will have to look on the back side of the harness

Expert:  3pac2222 replied 1 year ago.

the plug is going to be wrap in the harness you will have to cut the black tape

I found 4 plugs. none match the brake controller plug. what color wires will the plug have?
Expert:  3pac2222 replied 1 year ago.

Expert:  3pac2222 replied 1 year ago.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I see a blue thick wire, it runs into the rest of the wires. none of the plugs have that wire. Are you positive every Tacoma has this plug?
Expert:  3pac2222 replied 1 year ago.

what base model is it

Expert:  3pac2222 replied 1 year ago.

the wire will look like it run into the harness the plug will not stick in will be wrap up in the harness there should be a bulge section of the harness if you cut the tape off the bulge the plug should be right there

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
This is a base model 4x4 Tacoma regular cab. I cut three plugs from the harness, they all have green wires. None match the brake controller plug

Take a look at the video on this page, it will have a good image of the connector you are looking for, the blue wire, and it's location relevent to the rest of the wiring harness

I watched the video multiple times. I cannot find that plug on my truck. Does every 2012 Tacoma have that plug

This is the VIN# ***** my truck 5TFPX4EN4CX009348

Have you tried removing that kick panel and checking farther down the wiring harness? It isn't always consistent, because most of the time nobody goes looking for it, so they don't feel obligated to make it easy.

I will look again. Are you certain my truck has this plug
Expert:  gomi_otaku replied 1 year ago.

They should all have it- manufacturers would prefer to have to make only one wiring harness for all the vehicles, and only hook up what is needed.
