Toyota Prius: My son and I are trying to replace the front

Customer Question

My son and I are trying to replace the front axle hub on his 2007 Prius. We're down to pulling out the hub and its frozen inside the steering knuckle. Everything we've read it practically falls out. Any ideas??

Ok

ok. I usually take the whole hub off the car, flip it over on a vise then there is a dust cover on the inside that comes off. Hammer it out from there. You need to soak it hard in WD40 or similar product. Looks like you have some corrosion holding it together.

Sometimes I wedge a small chisel between the hub and bearing and tap in a couple different spots to try and work the hub and bearing away from each other.

Do u need a press to press that wheel bearing hub out of the steering knuckle
Expert:  Kyle N. replied 1 year ago.
Hi again,
Normally you do not need a press to get it out. The hub is Aluminum so it will deform easily. I scrape the edge all the way around with a pocket screwdriver to break up the corrosion, wd40 it and the chisel trick. You have to pound on it when they get as bad as yours. I'm in the Pacific North west and we use mag chloride on the roads in the winter. I've seen my fair share of these.

Ok I got it off

But found on the outer tie rod is bad but have problems breaking the nut loose I sprayed down with WD-40 still will not budge
