Occasionally and right now the latch on my hood won't engage.

Customer Question

Occasionally and right now the latch on my hood won't engage. Usually it will engage when I shut the hood. Sometimes, not. Today is a not.
The hood lever in the cockpit usually pops the hood and goes back in place, today it kind of stays partially out.

I can't shut my hood. Can you give me an answer so I can get going?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I have paid for an answer. Please tell me how to get the hood latch to work. I cannot drive my car with the latch open.

Hello. Welcome to Just Answer. We apologize for the delay in getting back to you. The question volume is rather high right now.
Regarding your request, we usually find that the pivot point for the hood latch seizes in the unlatched position. The recommendation before you do anything else would be to liberally spray the hood latch with WD-40. Tapping on top of the latch assembly after the WD 40 soaks in, will probably loosen the stuck pivot. You should hear it snap back into position. Once that happens, cycle the hood open and closed several times to ensure the latch pivot is good and free.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reply. If you are satisfied with my input, a positive rating would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
