My battery went dead, and I just had it replaced at an auto part store. Now the engine idle speed is very low, ~500 rpm, on verge of stalling. Is there an explanation for this, and how can I correct it?

2003 LE 4 cyl with about 106K miles.
Ok simple fix. The throttle body needs to be scrubbed out with a clean rag soaked in intake cleaner while the battery is disconnected. The idle memory values will restore normal once this is done. Any mechanic or dealer can do this for under $50.

Your advice was good, however, it did not include a much easier and less expensive fix. I have since learned by experience that simply driving the car for a few miles after the battery has been disconnected and reconnected (less than 20) will reset the engine management system and the idle speed will return to normal. This simple advice would have saved me a great deal of time and effort, but does not seem to be a $36.00 service. I won't be asking for advice from your site again. Thanks for your help.
