My 2002 Toyota echo starts, then runs for a few 5 to 20 seconds then turns off. it started about a week ago, but it would run for a few days then just stop but it would start back up and keep going. I plugged into the car and got a p1305 and a p1310 code. About 2 months ago I replaced all the coils and spark plugs. Also, when it is running it seems to run smooth with the exception of a few times it was idling at stop signs a little rough, but their was no power loss or hesitation when I gave it gas. It dose not feel like any of the cylinders are missing. Any Ideas? fuel pump? sensor? Mass air flow?
Thank you for choosing JustAnswer and allowing me to help you resolve your Toyota questions!
If you clear the codes do the same 2 keep coming back?
I cleared the code and started the car and now its running again. I unhooked the batter for a few minutes and then started the care again to see if they would come back the car is still running at this time. I will try driving it an see what happens.
Let me know.
still running has not turned off and no code, but something is still wrong I had to have it towed home last night.
These 2 codes are for the igniter circuit for cylinders 2 and 3 the igniter is built into the coil. Swap 2 for 1 and 3 for 4 and see if the problem goes to a p1300 and a p1315. If it does the coils are bad if it does not there is an issue in the connectors or the wiring to the computer. Let me know what this does.
I am starting to wonder if the codes were from before I replaced the coil. would a faulty coil cause the car to just turn off. when one of the coil went bad the car ran miserably but it still ran. this is different it seems to run more or less smooth then just shut off. Would a o2 sensor or the mass air flow sensor cause this kind of problem? I will try switching the coils but it does not seem like its the coils, just my layman's opinion of course.
Yes on the faulty coil id it is a 1300 series igniter code. O 2 sensor will not do this and MAF can in severe cases but will normally set a code for it. Let me know hoe the swap goes and if there are any codes that come back.
I decided to replace coils 2 and 3 with the old ones I had removed a few months ago. I have not had a problem again. hopefully that was it. Thanks for you help.
