I have a 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid 4X4. I am getting mouse intrusion inside the car. I did find a hole chewed in the cabin air filter. Replaced the filter. I have caught 6 more mice (traps inside) since then. I plan to inspect the filter again and perhaps put a hardware cloth screen over it. I have also gotten a suggestion to put a drier sheet in that area.Is that the only access mice have to the cabin? Is this a common problem? What have dealers or Toyota done to prevent it?
HI,Ok, first that is the only way for them to get into the cabin - thru the fresh air duct. This isnt a problem unique to Toyotas. ALL vehicles have a fresh air duct for air circulation. No manufacturer can design a vehicle to cover all possibile scenarios, including rodent infestation. What I have done, as well as other shops and dealers around me have done as well, is to remove the cowling below the windshield wiper arm and install a metal screen at the fresh air inlet duct opening. Living in a rural area, most of us have experimented with different solutions and the best seems to be installing a wire mesh screen there. Please note, your Deposit doesn't constitute a payment.
