I have a 2004 Toyota Sienna wth about 144,000 miles on it. Recently, I have been hearing a thumping noise coming from the rear of the car when I brake, it does not do it all the time but it does it frequently enough to be of concern. Any suggestions as to what could be causing this noise?
Optional Information: Make: Toyota Model: Sienna Year: 2004 Already Tried: I just took it into a mechanic because of this noise and they thought they had found the problem. They replaced the rear differential support assembly. I still get the thumping noise.
Hello and thank you for choosing just answer.
Since you hear the thumping noise on brake application I would believe that your noise is coming from the brakes in the rear. If I am not mistaken your vehicle is AWD and will have rear brake discs.
Have your rear brakes inspected for pad wear, abnormal wear and frozen components and i'm sure you'll find the problem there.
