My 2001 ECHO 2dr sedan is acting 'funny'. When I start it the engine idles high then readjusts itself to idle very low to where it sometimes stalls. The engine light is on too. It seems worse in the winter months. Recently when I start it when it is cold, I am unable to engage the car into a gear unless I wait a while and the wiggle the gear shift around. I have 154,500 miles on it.

Thank you for choosing JustAnswer and allowing me to help you resolve your Toyota questions!
Do you know the malfunction code numbers causing the light to come on? Does it run well enough to get to a nearby parts store like auto zone or similar to get a free code read? With the code number I can better assist you. Is this a manual shift transmission?
It is an automatic. We've had several codes that come up, most point to the vacuum system I think.
Do you have the code numbers?
Not right now. Do I need them before I can get an answer? Also the dash lights go on and off, mostly off randomly. I checked the fuses and none were burned out.
To give you professional help I need the code numbers. If you want me to GUESS anyone can do that and I will OPT out and let someone else GUESS.
