I HAVE A 2002 TOYOTA ECHO AND 2 SHOPS (1 TRUSTED) HAVE SAID I NEED A NEW PCM/ECU/BRAIN. SO MY QUESTIONS ARE:1) CAN I PUT A USED ONE IN?2) DOES TOYOTA HAVE TO PROGRAM IT?3) CAN I SEND IT SOMEWHERE TO BE FIXIED AND REINSTALL MYSELF?

hi,the ECM is located underneath the passenger side of the dash. just remove the lower trim piece underneath the dash to access it:While you can send yours out to be repaired, which is the least expensive method, your car will be down for 1-2 weeks waiting for it to come back.the best option is to buy a remanufactured unit that is from a company that will programm it with your VIN code and mileage so that no further progarmming is needed and it is a plug and play unit.you can get one for $295 from here:http://www.autocomputersystems.com/ECU/ECM/PCM/Repair/73817/Here is location of ECM
