99 toyota camry: the oil pressure lite is red..mechanic says..LE

Resolved Question:

the oil pressure lite is red. there is no oil pressure. my mechanic says we need a new engine for a 99 toyota camry, LE, 2.2 litre engine, 200,000 miles. can you recommend other remedies. If new engine required can you recommend vendor in south orange county.

Do you know whether not they actually did it oil pressure test? Is the engine making any unusual noises?

yes, it was negative, no pressure. there are no noises from the engine. we can actually drive it.

If you do not have any oil pressure the engine should be
locking up or making noise. If they put an actual oil pressure gauge on this
and it shows zero the engine probably is no good. At this point you're probably
going to be better off trying to find a used engine. This will more than likely
be your cheapest route. Unfortunately I do not know anybody in that area the
country that can give you assistance. Your only other possibility would be to
try a new oil pump and save the engine that you have.
