Hello and Welcome to JustAnswer. I am reviewing your question and will be back with you in just a second.

LexusPro :

It can be quite difficult to get it open. Try using the key and pulling on the door handle. In most cases the lock will be jammed and require some force to open it.

Answer no good. A man in my office (not a mechanic) understood my problem. By USING THE BUTTON/SWITCH on the driver's side door to unlock the hatch, the lock opened up and released the piece of cloth with no effort. The remote lock release and the key did no good. Somehoe Toyota must have known 80 year old men like me would get stuff stuck in the hatch lock and provided a way out. Your asswer was inadequate, not at all helpful. I am truly sorry about that.

I did not ned to pay my office mate, a 45 year old man with 2 SUV's.
