The cam timing mark can be a bit tricky the first time you do one of these engines. It helps to have a small mirror.
One of the spokes of the cam gear will have a hole drilled in it. When properly aligned, this hole will be directly over a notch in the front cam bearing cap that looks like this: |
When looking through the hole with a mirror, it will appear like this ( | ) when properly aligned.
