2002 toyota tacoma pre runner: automatic trans..2 sensors..housing

I have a 2002 toyota tacoma PRERUNNER with 2.7 engine and automatic trans. It has 2 sensors located in the tailshaft housing of the trans. What are they for and what year did toyota start doing this.

correct mine is 2WD..........does a 4WD have the same sensors, I want to buy a earler 4WD trans (like 1998 ) and install it.

ok thanks ......also when I use the ECT on my trans I cant tell any difference, is there anything I can do to change that ?

It just changes the shift points a tiny bit, it was more fluff to sell cars, then anything.

Both the sensors are speed sensors. They are the same from 1998-2002
