2 things can cause difficulty in removing the drums, 1-shoes are adjusted tight or the inner ring of the shoe contact surface rusts and holds drum in, removing the rubber plug and turning the adjuster down will allow clearance to remove the drum. 2-the drum seizes to the hub and rust/oxidation seal it in place, a rubber mallet will help to break this and if needed you will also see 2 prethreaded holes on the drum surface, you can install 8x1.25 bolts into these holes to drive the drum loose.
