1994 Toyota Camry: V6..a stop light or stop sign it blows cold air

Customer Question

I have a 1994 Toyota Camry 3000 V6. The heater blows hot air only when under exceleration. At a stop light or stop sign it blows cold air. At the same stop if you hold the brake harder and give it some gas it will blow hot air again. There doesn't apear to be any sign of a heater core leaking or the thermostat sticking.

Hi, welcome to JA.

  • Trully sounds like you have a failing Heater Control Valve. The valve is in line with the heater hoses at the back of the engine compartment...below is an illustration. You need to use an infared temp gun to take temperature readings of the inlet and outlet hoses..if the inlet are warm but the outlet are cool...than the valve is faulty. If the inlet hoses to the valve are also cool than there is a problem on the engine side...such as a bad thermostat or possibly even the water pump not flowing the coolant.
