I'm waiting to see an endodontist to determine if I need a root canal. Appointment is Wednesday. I've had excruciating tooth pain in the top right of my mouth, sometime the bottom, only on the right side. Mostly now only on top and pain can be felt to the right of just below my nose. The pain can get very unbearable. Nothing like I've ever felt before.I'm on day 5 and last day of amoxicillin 875mg. Tylenol and Motrin are helping with the pain. While awake I feel like my head is fuzzy. I tend to be tired so it helps when I rest.I've seen two different dentist offices. A new one says I need a root canal and my own dentist is not convinced I need one. But I'm sure I'll know more on Wednesday! In the past I've had tons of tension headaches and sinus infections. I also have allergies and take Zyrtec daily. I know both issues can mimic the same symptoms but never have I ever had excruciating tooth pain. Is it really possible to have excruciating tooth pain with a sinus infection? I'm at s loss of what else could be going on.

Most of my teeth are crowned. I brush, I floss...I drink a lot of soda and I smoke. In the last 6 months, I have had to have 2 root canals on the same tooth and it is bothering me again and now I have a severe toothache in another tooth that is also crowned. 2 months ago I was biting into a sandwich and a front crown came off with most of the tooth in it. My husband says I need a new dentist. Do I?

I had a bottom molar (unsure of the number but not a wisdom tooth) pulled roughly 6 months ago. Everything healed well and easily. I do remember the dentist saying a small piece of my jaw bone "broke" off when he pulled the tooth. Over the past 3 -4 days I have developed a "toothache" in that socket. It is the socket itself and not the tooth in front of the socket I have tapped on the tooth to make sure. Today I noticed a tiny white spot (knot) on the gum and a slightly red spot beside that white spot. Sometimes the pain throbs exactly like an abscessed tooth throbs, but at other times I have to push on the socket with my tongue to feel the pain. Do you have any idea what this may be.

I am having a slight pain in a tooth which may develop into a severe toothache later. I am 74 years old. PLease let me know whether I should take Augmentin 625 mg twice a day or augmentin 375 mg three times a day. Augmentin 625 contains 500 mg of Amoxylline, while Augmentin 375 mg contains 250 mg of Amoxylline.Or should I simply take Amoxylline 500 mg twice a day or Amoxylline 250 mg three times a day. For my age, will the smaller dose of 250 mg 3 times be safer?

I started to get a severe toothache in June of 2012. It came on suddenly with no apparent stimuli and lasted sometimes only a few minutes, up to half an hour. The pain was so intense that I had to stop everything I was doing. I couldn't think correctly or talk very well. The pain would sometimes start in my lower right jaw, and sometimes it would start in my upper right jaw. This pain was dull and steady, and at it's most severe I would rate it an 8 out of 10 on the pain scale. OTC pain killers like ibuprofen didn't help much. The pain would wake me up in the middle of the night. I went to two dentists, got several x-rays and did the hot/cold/tap test on all my molars, but neither dentist could find anything wrong. I eventually got frustrated and stopped going to the dentists. The pain eventually subsided and I haven't had a problem until last night. I was woken up multiple times during the night with the same severe pain in my teeth/jaw. Still the right side. Exact same symptoms, and I still can't pinpoint a specific tooth. I'm currently taking Naproxen to take the edge off and maybe get some sleep. I'm hesitant to go back to a dentist since they kept telling me that my teeth look perfectly healthy. I don't know what to do anymore except maybe get a root canal on suspected molars and hope that it's the right tooth and fixes the problem. What else could be going on? Should I just expect this kind of severe pain every several months?
