overheating- thermostat new- was told the engine has a cracked block, no coolant leaking to the ground-- temp guage rides at 215JA: How old are the hoses? And have you tested the actual mix of your coolant?Customer: Hoses have not collapsed, look pretty new- have observed them at the end of traveling with hood openJA: What is the model/year of your Chevy?Customer: 1989 - 3500 4x4JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?Customer: I fist started driving it a few days ago, it is a loaner from a nice person-- it was delivered to me just after the thermostat was changed. Took it to my mechanic thinking it needed a radiator flush as the next step- he took it to a smog shop and they detected something in the exhaust that indicated a cracked block, it ws leaking around the exit hose from the block... used some engine crack repair in the cooloing system and the external leak stopped.. Hoping it was stopped internallh also-- while observie how it was heating up while running, checkec the transmission fluid and it was absoluty empty-- coud this be contributing to the overheating also?JA: OK. To minimize me, please click the down arrow at the top right corner of this box.Customer: do you want the VJA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?Customer: I suspect the temp gauge may be reading high-- I used a thermometer on the opened radiator while it was running and showing 215 on the gauge in the truck cab but the thermometer in the radiator never got more that 170-- not sure abourt the accuracy of it either-- just another indicator

Example a few years ago i had a little fender bender took to
example a few years ago i had a little fender bender took to a dealer he said it would take at least 10 days to get a bumper & fender in & put it on i needed to go down south for my wife's mother's funeral so i took it to the local bump shop here the biggest one in town he said he could have it back in 4 or 5 days that's why i went there any ways it took him ten days didn't get it back until 6:oo pm on a fri. we left the next day late for furneral could'nt drive more than 55 mph down there because he didn't put any weights on front rims got down there had it fixed the reason i'am going into this is all my gauges were off so when i got back i took it to a local dealer i know and he reset the gauges but they were'nt quite right yet then the alternator gauge started discharging & over charging like below 13 amps up to 17 amps took back to dealer they said thats normal 13.5 to 16 .5 i said its under & over that range they checked it out and said couldn't find any thing wrong next problem take it in for oil change at a different dealer because he sent me a coupon for oil change for a lot less money ask if it ac filter & 5w-30 mobil oil & they said yes got oil changed no oil pressure on gauge when i started it up thought they really drained it out not ticking so i let it idle for about 5 min's no change brought out service manager it was up to 20 pounds also i went back to check on my truck after it was in side for about 40 min's asked whew my truck was they said out back i said is it done they said no there is no vehicles in booth next thing i know my truck is on a mechanics rack with no oil drum under neath truck started driving home about 8 miles away get home still 20 pounds pressure i was driving up to 45 miles per hr. down road next morning same thing had oil changed 3 more time in a single week with 5w-30 mobil oil at different dealer came up maybe 8 pd's pressure more now i go back a fourth time to the service person i know at same dealer she is taking down my vin. number & i see on the board that the oil changes have been changed now thy have 1 half synthetic oil & full synthetic mobil so i asked her when did they start the half synthetic oil she said since 2011 i said do you still have reg 5w-30 mobil she said yes i said what are you going to put in my truck she said half synthetic said i don't think so i said my truck is 2010 she said really i thought it was a 2011 i have been going here for years she knows me and my truck very well and had vin # ***** hand they changed it again with 5w-30 mobil asked kid what he put in he said 5w-30 mobil i said would you mine weighting that on print out slip he said no problem drove home got 38 to 40 pounds on gauge can't believe it next day fire up truck 20 pounds go down rd gets up to 35 or so right now up & down on gauge when't to another dealer i have visited in past to get mirror's fixed when you back up the right side would go up & out next day took it into this dealer and that morning the other mirror started goofing up so i told them to fix the mirrors they said it is time for your 50,000 mile maintenance for front& rear diff. also transfer case & flush & fill radiator plus transmission i told them to do all the gear boxes & the radiator get it out of dealer 8 1/2 hr's latter mirrors work backing up get home next morning backing out of garage look at mirrors they are up &out on passenger side not working at all on drivers side took it back after chemo treatment asked what the heck is going on also now water temp gauge is getting up to 260 in a matter of minutes used to take a while before it got there they asked me if was over heating i said no but something is not right he said don't worry unless it over heats took in back room to fix mirrors came out in about 40 mins. and said it was wrong motors said how can that happen he said they all look alike now my transmission is goofing up it wants to down shift real low when you press on gas to pass someone & feels like it's slipping the bands or what ever it use to to smooth when you kicked it down to pass and had a lot of get up & go also when i asked about the radiator flush i said what does that entail he said we empty out rad. flush sys. with something i can't remember what and then we add anti freeze. i have,nt told them about the dash reading out 167 degrees for the radiator then dropping down to 154 degrees which i never seen that on dash before also the other day backing out of driveway i put lever in m instead of d only went a few feet &put in d when i was in m for that few sec. a number 3 showed up next to the m never happen before makes me wonder if some where down the line some one switched out transmissions need help real bad i don't know who to take it to to straighten out this mess i loved my truck i payed over 50,000 dollars for it special factory paint job 2 tone pearl granite not grafite thats ruined thanks to bump shop i need help badly ***@******.***

I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3 V8 extended can 4x4.
I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3 V8 extended can 4x4. Just recently my truck started overheating when I press on the gas to speed up and get going. Once I am at a constant speed or slowing down, the temp goes back to normal range. Would this be a thermostat problem or ?
I just replaced water pump on Chevy 2500 Express cargo van.View more chevy questions
I just replaced water pump on Chevy 2500 Express cargo van. When I added coolant back I didn't get full 5 quarts in, only about 2.5-3 quarts. Now everything seems to be ok, no coolant leak, but after warming up it starts to overheat. It was not over heating at all before replacing water pump, it was only leaking coolant.
