Para influenza Vaccine for Dogs

What is parainfluenza in dogs?

Parainfluenza is a contagious viral disease that affects the respiratory tract of a dog. Nasal discharge, cough and high fever are just a few symptoms that are associated with this viral disease, and noted to be a contributing cause of “kennel cough”, if parainfluenza is left untreated this can develop into pneumonia. One may offer their dog protection by making sure their pet’s booster vaccinations are up to date as this should be a part of your pet’s vaccination schedule. Read below where Experts have answered many questions regarding parainfluenza vaccine for dogs.

Could it be harmful if an intranasal canine parainfluenza vaccine was accidently injected under the skin of a 3 week old puppy?

Parainfluenza vaccine for dogs and all other immunizations should not be offered any earlier than 6 weeks of age. In injecting the bordetella intranasal under the skin, the injection site could become abscessed. Other side effects of dog vaccines administered improperly could result in hives, vomiting and facial swelling. One should take their pet to a veterinarian to have the vet examine your pet as offering immunizations to a 3 week old puppy may result in a severe reaction.

How often should booster vaccinations be used, if the vaccination was purchased in the United Kingdom?

Booster vaccinations are still under debate , as there is no real proof whether vaccinating older animals are beneficial. However, if the vaccination is purchased in the United Kingdom, the best protocol to be used is to read the manufacture direction or consult with a veterinarian that is familiar with United Kingdom vaccinations. Usually, puppies get the first vaccinations and have booster shots yearly.

What is a DHL4PP-CV vaccination and what diseases does this prevent?

This is a vaccine that covers several canine diseases such as; distemper, hepatitis, 4 different strains of leptospirosis, parvovirus, parainfluenza and coronavirus. The age of the pet and frequency of these immunizations is important in making sure your pet has the necessary protection in fighting off disease.

A 2 month old puppy is displaying symptoms of matted eyes, runny nose lack of appetite and fluid intake what is this be and what can an individual do?

An upper respiratory infection may be caused by a combination of bacteria and viruses (influenza, adenovirus, parainfluenza virus, canine distemper virus). Side effects of dog vaccines may be a contributing cause as well. Just like humans, if we are not feeling well, often we do not eat, this is the same thing for dogs. Dogs often rely on their nose in order to smell and boost their appetite. Individuals should try to encourage their dog to eat and drink as much as possible to gain energy. If the individual cannot get their dog to eat by hand feeding them, the individual may need to have their dog seen by a vet to receive IV fluids, or even hospitalize the dog. Individuals may need to keep in mind, if they keep the dogs eyes clean; this can reduce the risk of gaining an eye infection, as well as the dog needing to be put on antibiotics. Also, with these symptoms it may even be possible that the dog may have some allergies. Individual may want to try a low amount of antihistamine given by a vet.

An Expert may offer insight to various diseases, immunizations in protection thereof and symptoms that are associated with these common canine diseases such as parainfluenza. An Expert may also offer immunization schedules in offering your pet the protection they need from these diseases and others that may be prevalent for one’s region. An understanding of these immunizations and there importance may offer one insight of what to expect before taking your pet to a veterinarian.

  • Hi, We are long time Golden Retriever owners. Unfortunately

    Hi,
We are long time Golden Retriever owners. Unfortunately our girl (Molly), passed away last spring of a liver ailment.
We are considering a new pup from a litter, from a reputable breeder in our area. We are a bit "gun shy" to take one of their female pups, as there were only three born live (with 2 or more we resorbed(sp?) before birth).... and a week ago (at age 6 weeks), one of the 3 in the litter (a male) was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus (water on the brain), and he died.
Is there a risk that the remaining two (females), could also have this issue? is this generally a "one dog" issue or can it show up in the full litter, at different times. Is there a blood test that can rule this out? What reading we have done indicates it can be caused by an infection or injury in the womb?
We very much want to take one of these pups... but are concerned about her current/future health risks.
Thanks in advance for your input.

  • My 6 mnth Maltese, Boo, was making a honking noise, and not

My 6 mnth Maltese, Boo, was making a honking noise, and not sure if he was coughing, or lodged something. He's breathing fine, so not obstructive. He finally came out of his crate (he's never gone in there willingly) and seems to be sleeping off and on since I signed on. I have a sinus infection which my doc's are culturing, and Boo has been putting his tongue up my nose. I stop him, but I've woken up with him doing it. Could it be a cough? Could he be sick and this is a cough? He was sneezing. Are there some bacteria's that Maltese's are susceptible to? Was on Augmentin for 14 days.
