My 8 lb male mini dachshund had a violent reaction to his da2pp vacc last Friday (7/25). He had profuse vomiting and hives. We took him to a referral/emergency hospital and after multiple visits he was hospitalized overnight Saturday night into Sunday because we could not get the vomiting stabilized from home. He is doing great now. He is back on his regular food and feeding schedule. We usually feed him around 9 in the morning and 6 pm in the evening. He goes out to potty first thing in the morning, in the afternoon, and before bed. However, ever since we brought him home Sunday he has woken up in between 2:30-3:30 am every morning, shaken off like he's wet, and gone back under the covers. Then he is waking up far earlier than he ever has. He has woken me up at 5:30, 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 in the morning. I am used to him sleeping until at least 9. It just seems like he isn't sleeping. When I've woken up in the night I've lifted the covers and he's just lying there staring at me. When he wakes up he isn't doing his normal roll around and be cute deal like before he got sick. He wags his tail and wants to be taken out. I've checked his gums at this time and they are the perfect bubblegum pink, but it seems like they're extra "slippery". He will go outside and potty like normal but then he wants to eat. Of course he has me trained so I feed him and he goes back to sleep. I've noticed he's doing a lot of very hard swallowing during the morning/day. Loud enough for me to hear the gulp. Also, and I am unsure if this is normal, when he breathes I can see his ribcage expand, and then I see his abdomen suck in. Like his privates lift up. I just want to make sure he's alright. That whole experience terrified me and I just want my boy to be alright. We haven't really been playing with him that hard this past week since he was recuperating. Of course his vet is closed today so I just need some solace as to whether this is medical or behavioral. Thanks!
