Oxidative Stress Related Questions

What is oxidative stress?

Oxidative stress often occurs when there is a physiological stress put upon the body. This is typically caused by free radicals unsuccessfully being neutralized by the antioxidants within the body. This is commonly associated with aging of the body. Oxidative stress symptoms may vary. Often these symptoms are what help diagnose what the underlying issue may be. Uncertainties of what oxidative stress might be or how it related to the body may often lead to additional questions much like the ones answered below by Experts.

What are the health benefits of kefir as related to oxidative stress?

Kefir contains a mixture of yeasts and bacteria in a combination of proteins, sugars and lipids. This mixture is known to have anti-mutagenic and antioxidant properties that may often be used to hopefully protect the body from oxidative stresses and mutations.

What might be occurring when experiencing symptoms of progressed weakness, severe fatigue, tingling in both feet, night cramps in the legs and deteriorating vision and thyroid and diabetes are not an issue?

Many illnesses that individuals can get have these symptoms such as multiple sclerosis (MS) which is an autoimmune disorder and may affect the individual neurologically. A neurologist should be able to rule out or diagnosis MS or other illnesses that may cause muscle and vision problems. If those are ruled out then other testing may need to be done in order to find the underlying issues. Oxidative stress is also known to add to an abundance of neurological disorders. The presence of oxidative stress in the body may in many situations be determined by checking the level of antioxidants in the body. Illnesses that are conjunction with oxidative stress may include multiple sclerosis, inflammatory bowel disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis and many more.

What is the recovery period from oxidative stress, encephalitis and what is treatment?

Encephalitis may take a few weeks up to many months to fully recover from. This may vary depending on the individual’s health prior to contracting the illness. After contracting encephalitis the body’s oxidative stress level is increased and may hinder the body’s ability to muster up energy. As the body is able to produce more antioxidants the energy may return. Recovery may be aided by lots of rest and the use of multivitamin supplements. Supplements may include natural antioxidants as well.

Is oxidative stress seen more in patients that have glaucoma and does it also cause chromium deficiency?

Oxidative stress may often be seen as higher in patients that have glaucoma. Often, with these patients antioxidants may be given to combat the oxidative stress and in return lowering it. There may be some studies out there that associate chromium deficiency with glaucoma but nothing has been definitively stated.

Having good information and a clear understanding about oxidative stress and how it affects the body can be helpful when faced with questions about oxidative stress. Experts can help answer questions about oxidative stress tests or oxidative stress causes. Get the answers to what oxidative stress is and oxidative stress symptoms by asking an Expert today.

    Hello, my name isXXXXX

From the end of 2004 - May of 2011 I use an antacid daily a week on a week off according to the directions. In the end of 2004 until Jan 2007 I drank very heavily. I used the antacid to kill the heartburn. But after I stopped drinking all together in noticed the heartburn got worst, so I kept using the antacid. I went to see a Gastroenterologist Doctor who did scopes from both ends and who put me me on Nexium, Aciphex, etc. with no relief. During this time between 2006 - 2010 I noticed sensitivity to light and my teeth got very soft started losing fillings. I would get rashes, and dry skin no matter how much I used moisturizer. There were memory losses, confusion and poor judgment. I could not lose weight. Chronic daily anxiety with panic attacks, shortness of breath and chest pains that mimicked heart attack symptoms. Blurred vision, and I was prone to constant sinus infections. I also grew a tolerance to caffeine (it would create heart palpitations). I would also find for no apparent reason to have low blood sugars from time to time 1 hour after eating a huge meal, not all the time but maybe 3 time per month.

In May of 2011 I was reading the bottle of antacid and noticed the primary ingredient was aluminum hydroxide. So I went to my primary doctor who suggested a blood test and urine. My blood aluminum serum showed 13 and 7 or less is acceptable. Urine was shown to be in normal range. So I started pushing Magnesium Citrate and 5000 mg. Vitamin C. The question is, is it likely that the aluminum hydroxide was the cause of most of these issues? Since stopping the use of the antacid all physical issues have subsided or deceased to an acceptable level. The anxiety has dropped off about 80% and I now have a life again. Short term memory is very good, mid-term (3mos-7yrs) still not so good with some lapses in time altogether. Long term 7yrs and longer is good for my age of 49. Mid - July 2011 blood test show the aluminum serum level to be 4. I am now also able to lose weight at will again and drink caffeinated coffee with no heart palpitations or shakiness. Was aluminum toxicity or constant aluminum poisoning the most likely cause of the majority if not all the symptoms listed above?

    Respectfully,

    Kevin Kollar
