We have an 11 y/o female Standard Collie -- just had a great
Hello. We have an 11 y/o female Standard Collie -- just had a great wellness visit with our vet at the beginning of this month. All of her bloodwork came back great - just to give you a quick background. This afternoon she has been restless and panting or breathing heavily (approx. 60 breaths/minute). She has also been having some unproductive hacking, like she's trying to vomit or cough something up -- maybe a few times an hour.

Sorry, it a story....so I've just been searching the Web for
Sorry, it a long story....so I've just been searching the Web for some answers.JA: I'll do all I can to help. What is the matter with the dog?Customer: She is a nine year old Boxer with small cancerous tumors the have on her body that have never changed in size. She also has some fatty tumors on each side of her flanks. I had those aspirated and the vet said the were not cancerous at the time, about 8 months ago. Last month she would would wake me up, she sleeps in my bed. She a a Grand Mal seizure on March 15. She was okay after a little while, but she wouldn't have been able to jump up into my truck to go to the vet. March 31st She woke me up again around 0700. I got her outside onto my grass yard, where she proceeded to have about 6 Grand Mal's, about 10-15 minutes apart. It took her few days to recover from that. Then she was fine, back to playing, normal eating and drinking. So she's been FINE for a month. This morning she woke me up at 0645 and I could tell something was wrong, so we headed outside to the grass where she relieved herself both ways, but very off balance. No seizure. She drank some water after about an hour. Now, 2 things....1 I have noticed a high spot on the right side of her spine. A Vet Tech friend of mine came by and said that would be where her kidney would be. 2 this morning after she had peed several times, she normal cleans herself up. As I know she couldn't do it I took a paper towel and wiped down there. I had a brownish tinge to it. She would drink more water and half to pee fairly soon after. I watched as much as I could and it seems like it's getting a little clearer. She was acting completely normal yesterday. I would take her to the vet if I had a car she could get into. She way too off balance to do much.JA: This sounds like it might be serious. I'll let the Veterinarian know what's going on ASAP. Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about the dog?Customer: The only thing I can think of was that gardeners sprayed the yard with weed and feed in March. I actually don't think it's poison related. I have numerous injuries that made me have to retire. I live in a very nice 5th wheel trailer. She and I go up to bed to watch TV. Then she and her 3 cat's get fed their wet food around 7pm. I take her outside after that, she comes back in drinks water and then gets onto her Kong bed right next to me. So when she waked me those 3 times it's always been at around 7am. That's why I don't think it's poison related. The seizures anyway....
