Flagyl for Dogs

What is Flagyl for dogs?

Flagyl is an antibiotic that is normally used to help fight dangerous bacteria’s; in some cases Flagyl can be helpful that the dog uphold a steady amount of Flagyl in the blood system. With that being said this medication can be very important that the dog is given the Flagyl on a regular basis. Most of the time the dogs vet will recommend that Flagyl is given with 8 ounces of water. Flagyl for dogs can either be taken alone or in some cases it can be taken with a meal to help prevent the dog’s stomach from getting upset. Flagyl in many cases is used to treat a wide range of infections such as, respiratory tract, vaginal infections, abdomen, intestinal infections and many more. For more information regarding Flagyl for dogs you can read below where several Experts have answered many frequently asked questions.

Why could a dog that is taking Flagyl only limp when not on the medication?

Case details: The dog lives in a high populated tick area. Since Flagyl is an antibiotic that can treat several different infections it could be possible that the Flagyl is treating an underline infection from a tick bite. There could be a possibility that if the dog was having pain in the body that is not related to arthritis or orthopedic pain then it may be the Flagyl that is helping the dog causing the dog to only limp when not taking this medication.

What can be given to a dog with an upset stomach from taking Flagyl?

In some cases for a dog that has an upset stomach there are 2 ways that are generally used to relieve the upset stomach. The most common way is by giving the dog Pepto Bismol; this is usually given 1 teaspoon for every 20 pounds that the dog weighs for every 8 hours. Now if this method does not seem to work there is a second option. The second way to treat a upset stomach is to try giving the dog Pepcid AC this is generally given at ¼ of a tablet for every 20 pounds the dog weighs in intervals of 12 hours.

Why would 2 dogs that are having diarrhea be prescribed Flagyl? This started 3 weeks after adopting the dogs.

From the sounds of things, this is most likely not something that the dogs have caught such as a cold or infections from the old home since the dogs have been in the new place for 3 weeks. If the dog’s diet was changed abruptly the dogs could possibly have diarrhea. Now as for why the dogs were given Flagyl this is may be an uncommon considering Flagyl is not usually used for diarrhea, it is normally used to fight infections. Most likely the best thing that can be done for the dogs is to fast them for 24 hours; after that a boiled diet may be the best bet until the diarrhea is gone. At that time the dogs may be able to wean the dogs onto their normal food.

If a dog is taking Flagyl could this cause the dog to become dizzy?

Many dogs have been found to be quite sensitive to Flagyl; in some cases this medication has been shown to cause nervous system problems in a dog. These side effects can range from dizziness to tremors.

When a dog is prescribed a medication it can be hard to understand why the dog needs this medication over any other medications. Most of the time dog owners don’t know what the medication that their dog is taking is doing for the dog, or exactly why the dog is on this medication. My 11 year old lab has a bad ear infection. These get very bad very quickly with him. I have cleaned out his ear with ear cleansing solution my vet gave me for the last time this happened, got all dirt out (it's not smelling like its infected) but red and oozing puss alittle. I put 7 drops of "Posatex" inside and some topically where he has been scratching raw. I'm taking him in first thing in the am but he's in pain now. I'm not into pain meds for dogs, esp aspirin, so I'm looking for an herbal remedie for inflammation and Mainly PAIN. He's completely heathy otherwise just these ear infections every once in awhile. Thanks,
    Allie
