Hi, Great Question.

Unless you are in a community property state, you are not required to split the mortgage interest if one of you pays for all the mortgage payments. One of you can claim all of it, and the other claims none. If one of you itemizes, the other needs to itemize, as well.

I am not sure if Ohio is a community property state or not. We have our funds together but file separately
because of school loans.
