Customer Question

Can I somehow get the latest tax return and/or W-4 of my spouse if we filed separately and they are incapacitated/unavailable (e.g. medical condition, business trip, etc.) at the moment?

Hi. My name is ***** ***** I will be happy to help you.

Unless you have power of attorney, you will not be able to get her tax return if you filed separately. You will not get her W2 without her consent even if you filed jointly.

Hi. You referred to it as W2, why not W4?
Expert:  emc011075 replied 3 months ago.

W4 is withholding certificate. It will not tell you anything about her taxes. It will only tell you how her withholding should be calculated (how many allowances she claimed). And the employer will not give it to you.
