Customer Question

Hi. I am a permanent resident in the United States since 2010. My brother and his family live in Greece and have financial problems. I want to support them. Is there a way to deduct the money I send them from my US taxes?

I'm so sorry, but the only way you could do this would be to take one or more of them as a dependent. (Then, although the money sent, itself, would not be a deduction - you would get the $4,050 dependeduction for each and beable to add CERTAIN expenses to your that are deductible, such as medical expenses)

...

To claim someone as a dependent on your tax return, they have to be a US citizen or a resident of the US, Canada or Mexico.
