Customer Question

my ex-employer issued me a 1042-S because I had a foreign address, however, I am a U.S. citizen. Did they issue this form in error rather than a W-2 or 1099? Payment is for pension. Thank you

Hi. My name is ***** ***** I will be happy to help you.

Did you informed your ex-employer about your US citizen status? As US citizen you should have had received 1099R instead.

You will need to contact the employer and request a new form to be issued. If he doesn't, you will need to use 1040S to file your current year taxes and change it next year.
