Customer Question

Can't figure something out. I have a client who falls into the AMT. The have a schedule C where there is no profit being shown because of a home office deduction and other expenses. Why would the AMT tax increase when the net profit of the business is 0. If i take out the schedule C altogether the AMT decreases and not sure why. Thanks.

Hi, may name is ***** ***** I can help. One reason that I can think of is if the taxpayer has depreciable property and the AMT depreciation is less than the regular tax depreciation. However, to know for sure what adjustments are on Form 6251? It might help if you upload a redacted version of the Form 6251.
