A misclassification of your status would not be dependent on just the time you are required to be clocked in.
Does the club control or have the right to control what you do and how you do the lessons?
Are the business aspects of the lessons controlled by the payer (the student)? (these include things like how worker is paid, whether expenses are reimbursed, who provides tools/supplies, etc.)
As long as your lessons are independent from the club and the students pay then this can be separate form your employment. Even if you are doing your self employment on the boss's time.
