Payroll Tax Cut temporarily was extended into 2012.
That was based on the Temporary Payroll Tax Cut Continuation Act of 2011 which extended the two percentage point payroll tax cut for employees, continuing the reduction of their Social Security tax withholding rate from 6.2 percent to 4.2 percent of wages paid through Feb. 29, 2012.
For wages paid after February 29, 2012 - the rate is 6.2%.
Employer's social security tax rate was 6.2%
The social security wage base limit in 2012 was $110,100.
Medicare tax rate was 1.45% - for both employee and employer portions.
