Medicare Exemption on Working Holiday Visa

Customer Question

Medicare Exemption on Working Holiday Visa Hi there, I was on a working holiday visa in 2012/2013 but I was not eligible for Medicare. My boyfriend (NOT husband) is from the UK and he was eligible for Medicare and we were living together. The ATO have contacted me now to say that I owe medicare exemption levy from this year because my boyfriend was eligible, even though I was not eligible to claim medicare, I still have to pay the levy. Can someone confirm or deny this?
