Is life insurance collected by a widow taxable?

Robin D :

Hello and thank you for using Just Answer,

Robin D :

Life insurance payments to the beneficiary are generally not taxable (this would include the widow).

Robin D :

Any interest that was earned (if any) before the pay out would be taxable but the insurance company would tell the receiver if there was interest included.
