Customer Question

An IRS Revenue Officer Showed up at my house on Friday. She showed her credentials and presented a business card. She asked if she could come in. She said they had not received my 941-B for 4th Quarter of 2010. I happened to have Quickbooks open, so I was able to quickly get her a copy. The only questions she ask was How has business been with the recession? She also commented on how pretty my house was. I asked why she showed up at my home and why they did not just send a letter requesting. She said the address on file was a post office box and with a "little digging" she had found my home address. Is this normal protocol? Do I have anything to worry about?

Jax Tax : If you don't owe taxes, no. IRS has been doing more outreach parley to keep small businesses on track.

Yes, she said they had the payment, but just needed a copy of the report. But shouldnt they attempt to make an appointment or call if a report is missing?

Jax Tax : They may have sent a letter.
Jax Tax : They are simply trying to be more a part of the community.
Jax Tax : There are a lot of businesses doing poorly.
Jax Tax : Not filing. Not paying. Not closing out when they go under.
Jax Tax : The IRS just wants a larger physical presence so they are going out more. They can just so up at the address they have for the business.
Jax Tax : I would not be worried.

Ok, thank you.
