What are the ways that you can write of your immigration fees

Customer Question

What are the ways that you can write of your immigration fees on your joint married taxes??? I heard that some people write it off as "cost of looking for work" if they apply for work authorization. Have you heard of people doing this, why do they claim and have they been successful, and what does the IRS allow???

Hello and thank you for using Just Answer

The expenses are not allowed as a deduction against income on your tax return. To deduct job hunting expenses, you must be looking for a job in your present line of work.
