can a business retroactively spend money on computers, equipment, etc to decrease tax liability for 2009... right now we are showing a small tax liability, but could use a new laptop, etc. can we purchase those items now and deduct them from 2009?

Hello jink,

You cannot claim a deduction for any expenses or purchases that were made in a tax year other than the one you are filing for. Laptops and other assets are depreciated over a period of years, and the depreciation cannot start until the year the asset is actually purchased and actively placed in service.
