I receive a widows benefit from my husbands SS. Is it taxable

This answer was rated:

I receive a widows benefit from my husbands SS. Is it taxable as earned income and if so is there a form I can fill out to have taxes with held? thanks. Judi.

Hi Judi,

SS benefits are not considered your earned income.

However - they may be partly taxable depending on your other taxable income.

Here is the test - if your other taxable income plus half of your SS benefits - total less than $25,000 - none of your SS benefits are taxable.

Let me know if you need any help.
