I just found my completed federal and state taxes, with envelopes to be mailed, in a folder. It occurred to me that I hadn't gotten my refunds, and I just found out why. My taxes were oprepared by someone else, and he gave me back an envelope with all the items in it, but I just apparently put it aside and forgot to mail them!! Should I just mail them today? Should I enclose an explanation, as they are signed and dated from March 2009. How embarrassing! Thanks for your advice. Ellen

Reposted to remove formatting bug error: Greetings, Indeed, you should just mail the forms as sson as possible. As always, return receipt mail is preferred so you have a record of the mailing. Since the due date to file an extension has passed, there is no form or statement that would make any difference in the processing of your return that can be added at this time. With a refund due it is quite likely that there will be no penalty or interest assessed for not sending the forms in March. Should you get any correspondence proposing a penalty you can respond at that time. I hope this helps to understand encloing an explanation will not have any difference on how the returns are processed. Best wishes.
