i have received a $25,000 plus insurance check, have no checking or savings account, and do not want to pay the exhorbitant (8%!!) fees that a check cashing establishment wants to charge me to cash this check. any ideas about how i can cash this check for the lowest possible fee or cost?
Hello tommy, If the insurance check is issued by a bank that has a branch in your local area, then you may go to the issuing bank that the check is to be drawn from and try to cash the check. Most of them will cash checks drawn on their client's accounts as long as you have the proper identification (drivers license, etc). Or have you thought about simply opening your own account at a local bank or credit union? You can open a new account in less than 30 minutes time. They would not actually cash the check for you the very same day, because they normally need to allow a few days float time to make sure the check has cleared the other bank before releasing the cash, but you would have access to your money in just a few days. The only other possible thing to do is to have a friend or relative deposit the check for you in their bank account, and then give you the funds once the check has cleared. All you have to do is endorse the back of the check and then mark "Pay to XXXXX XXXXX" or whoever you want to cash the check for you. These are going to be the only ways you can cash that check without incurring a large fee through an outside check cashing source. If this was helpful please press the Accept button. Positive feedback is also appreciated. Thank you tommy, and let me know if you have more questions. I am happy to help you with whatever I can.
