sales and use tax audit

Resolved Question:

I own a veterinary clinic in Idaho. When we opened we bought used equipment from several sources. The auditor wants us to pay sales tax on these items. I thought if the previous owners paid sales tax and we bought them used we would not have to pay sales tax again. Am I wrong?

Are they asking you to pay sales tax or use tax?
Customer: replied 8 years ago.
They are calling it Idaho use tax on the preowned purchases.

Use tax is a tax on goods that you put to use or store in Idaho. If you haven't paid sales tax on these goods, you owe use tax (unless the items are held for resale or an Idaho exemption applies). The use tax rate is the same as the sales tax rate.
