Dear Ms. Ashley,

Unfortunately, if the baby was not born by December 31 at midnight, you are not able to take the deduction.

However, you may take medical expense deductions related to the pregnancy to the extent that all of your medical and dental expenses exceed 7.5% fo your adjusted gross income.
