Fill out Form SS-4 for an employer I.D. number.  At line 8a select the "Other" box and indicate that your a farm.  Once you fill out the form call 1-800-829-4933 to get the number.  have the form with you when you call.  The form can be obtained at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fss4.pdf.
