We have a client with a new 2016 Subaru. We've had it hooked

Customer Question

We have a client with a new 2016 Subaru. We've had it hooked up to a battery tender while they were away, but it still died. Thoughts as to why this would happen?
JA: Have you tested the battery with a voltmeter? And can you see if it's leaking or not?
Customer: We have, and it was (it has since been replaced by the dealer)
JA: What is the model of your '16 Subaru?
Customer: Outback This happened on another Subaru Outback as well, perhaps a 2015?
JA: Are you fixing your Outback yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I'm less concerned with fixing it (its been fixed) and more just want to find out if the battery tender I'm using is somehow not compatible with newer Subarus
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: I don't think so, no.

The battery may have a dead cell.A battery with a dead cell will not allow a charge and is the most likely the cause .Your battery tender is totally compatible so no worries there.

Is your guess that it's just coincidence on the issue with the other Subaru?

The batteries used are only rated for 390 cold crank amps,we have had many problems with discharged batteries since that model was introduced, now they are going back to 550cca so they were aware of these batteries causing problems especially vehicles that are not driven often.
