Customer Question

snowed last night and when i went out to open the door the fob would not work nor manually inserting in the key and turning
JA: Can you turn the steering wheel at all? And what about the key? Is it worn or damaged?
Customer: I can't get into the car since it is locked...that's the problem
JA: What is the model/year of your Subaru?
Customer: 2015 outback
JA: Are you fixing your Outback yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I've tried a rubbing alcohol/water mixture and running a hair dryer over the key insertion area
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: I think the battery might be dead because I hear nothing when I press the key fob

I've been trying that for the past 40 min...no luck
Expert:  Chad Farhat replied 5 months ago.

usually the key lock cylinder ,is never used and they get stuck, and cold/snow weather want help . will take longer time,if you cant wait

only option unfortunately call lock smith /pop open /recharge battery & figured out what killed the battery .

if the alarm goes off on you after you open it & u don't have scanner to clear

try the master rest

Master reset Procedure

1- Disconnect Battery Cables ( Negative & Positive Cables )you can use any electrical wire as an extension if battery cables don't reach .

2- Hold cables Together for 60 secs ,then let go

3- Wait 15 minutes

4- Make sure all doors are closed

5- Reconnect battery Cables

6- Lock & unlock the vehicles using the key from driver door side (if you have a key fob with no blade key, just lock & unlock using the key fob buttons)

7- Enter the vehicle and attempt to start

Please let me know

Thank You
