Does the engine crank and not start or no cranking at all?
Automatic or manual transmission?
Do you hear any clicking or anything when you try to start it?
Ok, any sounds when you try to start it?
Ok, please give me a moment to type my response.
I would first try wiggling the shifter and maybe even put the car into neutral and see if the engine will crank. Sometimes the switch on the shifter doesn't make good contact and the engine won't crank. The computer won't allow it to if it doesn't think it's in park.
If you don't have any success with that, I would next try a jump start. It takes amperage for the starter motor to turn, if you have voltage to run most things without amperage, then the engine won't turn over.
Let the donor car stay attached for 15 minutes, then try to start it. If the result is the same, please let me know.

That could indicate a battery issue, check the brake lights. If they are working then the shifter should come out, if not, then it could be the battery causing the problem.
That being said, the brake light switch might be the issue. Does the car have push button start on it?
If only one light is working that shouldn't stop the shifter from coming out of park. I am thinking you need to try a jump start here and see if it helps.
Hadn't heard back so I was wondering how you made out or what the problem was/is?
