Subaru Problems? Ask a Mechanic for Answers ASAP
Hello and thank you for your question! My name is ***** ***** I will be assisting you with your question today.
How many miles on the car and what did the dealer suggest?
So let me guess, they are telling you this is normal? Also, is it the 2.5 or H6 engine?
Well, normally it will rattle on first start up because it takes a few seconds for the oil to get to the top of the engine.
If you were to answer my question about the engine size, it is possible it's something else. The 6 cylinder engine has timing chains. These have tensioners that use oil pressure to keep them pumped up. If they leak, then the chain will rattle on start up after it sits all night.
Finally, these engines also have piston slap. This is due to not having piston skirts to keep them perfectly centered.
I suggest contacting Subaru at 1-800-Subaru3 if you are not satisfied with the dealers response.
